New Hamilton Hall

I hate they had to tear down the old 1917 original University Hospital but the new Hamilton Hall Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center (opened January 2024) is a really grand, attractive, useful, and state-of-the-art space for 21st Century students.

Broke Our Trophy

On April 14, 2025, the National Championship Buckeyes paid a traditional but, under the circumstances, ill-advised visit to the White House. Widely disliked Trump VP, Ohio State alum, and awkward weirdo J.D. Vance fumbled and broke the National Championship trophy. Campus opinion was unforgiving. J.D.'s political career in Ohio is over. (A few days later J.D. visited the Pope and he died a few hours later.)

Senior Crawl 2025

Round after round of thunderstorms did nothing to diminish the Class of 2025's enthusiasm as they made their way one last time through all their old haunts.

Understory

Rainy spring afternoon view from Understory, 2571 Neil Ave.

Restaurant is in the little-altered former lunchroom of the Open Air School (built 1928) for children with tuberculosis. The many and large windows were part of the school’s regimen of sunlight and fresh air for its students.

Neil Ave, way down by Goodale, looking north towrds campus, c 1905. Buildings on the left were all demolished to make way for the Thurber Retirement Community in the early 1960s. Neil Ave United Methodist Church on the right is still standing but operates as Sanctuary, an events space.

SoHud Pride 2025

This June, the fascists in state and federal government are waging war on LGBTQ people. Corporations, schools, and universities have bent the knee, folded, and acquiesced. Not us. We the people--here in the neighborhood--still celebrate freedom, choice, solidarity, and Pride!!!

Summer skelly

Time for porch drinks! It's summertime in the neighborhood!!

New North Entrance

The 170th Ohio State fair saw the debut of the futuristic new North Entrance. LED-illuminated entrance nicely frames giant cardinal Mr Go-hio. It was still very much a fairgrounds under construction.

Sweet baby Llamas

Sweet baby alpacas getting lotsa love at the 170th Ohio State Fair.

Ohio wine slushie

Ohio Wine Slushies are the real MVP at the 170th Ohio State Fair!

Pelotonia 2025

Pelotonia 2025, Aug 2, 2025.

Shrek bong

It's student move-out time again. Out with the old Shrek bong. In with the new.

Plush penii

Plush penises soak up the late afternoon sun in the window of Waterbeds n Stuff, 2185 N High St. Supplying those who partake since 1972.

Indianola Park booklet

1908 promotional booklet for Indianola Park amusement park on N 4th St. Designed to be sent out to organizers of company, church, fraternal organization, trade union, political party, and business association summer outings, the booklet featured photographs of the park's attractions, effusive and flowery praise of its delights, and assurances of its cleanliness and high moral standards.

Delighted to land a copy of this after all these years. Had my eye out for it almost 20 years. They don't show up often.

North High Football 1926

The undefeated 1926 City League Champion North High School football team posing in front of their new school. The Polar Bears not only defeated all their rivals but held each and every one scoreless. The next year, North opened its new athletic field on the east side of the school--one of the handsomest in the city and still in use today.
